Always carry your emergency medical information card with you, advised Mr. Ho Thai Binh, Director of Survival Skills Vietnam (SSVN) at the Drowning Prevention Workshop held in District 1 (HCMC) this afternoon, December 6.
“Amulet”
The activity, organized by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, aims to raise public awareness of drowning prevention, attracting the attention of many people living and working in Ho Chi Minh City.

Experts recommend that everyone should carry a smart emergency medical information card with them to protect themselves in case of emergency.
The event was attended by Mr. Ho Thai Binh, Director of Survival Skills Vietnam, an expert in the field of surf lifeguard training and pool security. Opening the workshop, Mr. Binh emphasized the importance of a smart emergency medical information card, which everyone needs to carry with them.
A card with personal information such as name, blood type, chronic diseases, allergy information, information and contact information of relatives as well as first aid instructions in case of emergency… can help us in an emergency such as an accident.
Accordingly, in case of an emergency, a smart emergency medical information card can act as a “talisman” to help us get medical help faster if we are unconscious or help first responders know how to call an ambulance or provide first aid properly in an emergency.
“This card should always be kept in an easily accessible place on your person, such as your wallet,” Mr. Binh advised.
What to do in case of drowning accident?
The main content of the workshop revolved around guidelines on drowning prevention. According to experts, drowning is one of the fastest causes of fatal accidents if the victim is not treated promptly before accessing professional medical help.

The event received a lot of attention.

Expert advice on drowning prevention
In Vietnam, drowning is a problem that needs attention, especially in children, where every day 6-10 children under 15 years old die from drowning. Victims who survive drowning, some are lucky enough to recover completely, while others have to live their entire lives with serious injuries and sequelae from drowning such as acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, brain damage, etc.
The workshop helps participants recognize the signs of drowning, understand the mechanism of drowning, and thereby take precautions for themselves and those around them.
In addition, participants are also instructed by experts on methods to approach drowning people, how to bring drowning people to shore safely for both the victim and the rescuer, and how to give first aid to drowning people. From here, we can know the causes to prevent drowning accidents from happening to ourselves and those around us.
