First Aid educational materials for visually impaired children

Introducing the project
The first aid educational resource in Vietnamese for visually impaired children

People with disabilities in general and blind children in particular are subject to many risks of injury. At the same time, blind people suffer even more disadvantages when there are no first aid and injury prevention educational materials in Braille and audiobooks.

Blind children cannot have concepts, recognize and remember everything accurately. The teacher’s job is to transform regular lessons that use vision into lessons that can be interacted with by hand. many other senses such as touch (using braille) and hearing (using audiobooks). The teaching and learning process requires perseverance and patience because the ability to absorb is slower than normal students. Change some phrases when teaching “you observe” “you see”… with the phrases “you read”, “you touch” instead of filling in “the blank” with “fill in” on the dot”…

When an accident occurs, blind people also have more difficulty calling for help, and it is more serious when teachers and caregivers do not have first aid skills to provide timely support. Through surveying and piloting the first aid training program for some teachers at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special High School, the school found that this is a very necessary skill group for both teachers and students to prevent risks and mitigate risks. injury in situations of accidental injury. At the same time, Braille resources and audiobooks are also very important to disseminate this knowledge to visually impaired students.

Teacher Trinh Cong Son

When I first went to school, I just thought that first aid was the same as what schools taught, such as bandaging simple things. But when I went to school, I was really surprised by the very useful lessons. And apply it when encountering accidents that often happen in your school such as what should students do with nosebleeds, epilepsy, frequent falls because they are blind students, etc.

Very interesting lessons imparted to me by SSVN. I like the first aid lesson the most when I’m unconscious so I know how to handle it. Previously, I thought wrongly about this first aid method. The knowledge is very new to me, I have never had such a good first aid lesson and when I go home I also teach those lessons to my family, everyone is very excited and useful.

I really enjoyed this first aid lesson because it is very necessary for those who do not have access to first aid. I hope it will be expanded and I will teach the knowledge I have learned to teachers at school. I haven’t studied yet and when I go out, I can help victims receive first aid before the ambulance arrives.

I encourage parents and people to learn first aid because it is really useful when our family has someone in trouble so we can calmly handle it.

I would like to thank SSVN for sponsoring the first aid course for Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School. SSVN works very professionally, providing very authentic and effective first aid knowledge. I had a very fun class, I got to practice and interact directly. This is a useful course that needs to be replicated in the community. The e-learning lectures are very easy to understand. I will organize a seminar for teachers at my school to teach first aid knowledge to teachers who have not yet learned it and apply the knowledge to help with first aid for road accidents. This is a very necessary skill not only for you but also for your loved ones. Everyone should learn first aid.
