At the time of need Sơ cấp cứu mobile app, there has not been any app in Vietnamese, there were a few paid apps however, the quality were poor or in foreign languages.
SSVN recognized such app could mean life-and-death differences in emergencies especially in Vietnam when the majority doesn’t have first aid awareness, first aid equipment and infrastructure for emergency and traffic are not developed. Therefore, the first First Aid Instruction Mobile App was launched.
Currently, there are many outdated first aid instructions being circulated. Besides, most internet search results are unproven folk ‘tricks’, commercial information which are often misleading endangers victims and the rescuers themselves.
The content of the App is the newest guidance from reputable international organizations. Besides, the content was created by Mr. Tony Coffey – an expert with more than 30 years of training and practicing paramedicine, he is also the author of the second most First aid instruction manuals in Australia and New Zealand.
Unlike popular apps which only repost copies of first aid books, Sơ Cấp Cứu mobile app intuitively categories emergency scenarios to help users quickly look up the most relevant scenarios and first aid advices.
At the same time, SSVN says No to all commercial and advertising content that may slow down the app or distract users to avoid wasting precious time of victims. We guarantee this app is free, forever.
There are many environmental factors that may hinder the first aid practices in real emergency, therefore, aside from text instruction, the App also offers video and sound instructions.
We recommend you to learn first aid before accidents happen, therefore, the app is linked to other education channels so you can best prepare for any scenarios.
In early 2017, Mr. Ho Thai Binh was a student of SSVN when the program first came to his hometown – Vung Tau. While learning, he recalled he suffered from many serious accidents during his childhood however thank to his mother who was a nurse provided first aid to him correctly and timely, he survived. Being afraid that he would forget such precious knowledge after leaving the class, he looked for an app to remind him if accidents happened. To his surprise, he couldn’t find any first aid app in Vietnamese.
He hoped there would be a semilar app in Vietnamese as at that time SSVN only has 2 co-founders, they would not be able to deliver the classes to all 90 millions Vietnamese. After the class, he recommended the trainer – Mr. Tony to make such app. Mr. Tony also shared that he had a similar wish, however, in order to do that in Australia it may costed AUD 10.000 which the team couldn’t afford.
The cost was too unaffordable for Binh to contribute, after that, although having no technical background, Binh spent 2 months in a row to learn to create a mobile app and research all the books Mr. Tony authored to find the best way to make the app happen. After many failed prototypes, Binh created the first working app with only 1 skill to help unconcious victims to present to the 2 founders of SSVN Ms. Trang Jena and Mr. Tony when the team organized another class in Vung Tau. The 2 founders loved the prototype so much that they agreed to develop the app to gether.
In the same nigh, SSVN welcemed a group of highschool students who travelled from a remote area to attend the class. One of them shared that 2 months before the class, while prepraring for the Traditional New Year, his father had a sudden heart arrest and went unconcious. However, the whole family didn’t know what to do aside from waiting for the ambulance. It was too late when the ambulance arrived. The student told us that: “if I learnt first aid 2 months ago, my father could have been saved”.
The sharing made the team choked with emotion that every day there were many watched their family members passing away helplessly as non of them knew first aid. Therefore, the team decided to hasten the development of the app to save as many people as possible.
With the strong determination and enthusiastic support from our learner cummunity, the app was launched on August 2017 and became the first free first aid instruction app in Vietnamese.
At that time, the first version of the app only included text and photo instructions. However, this is the first step for a diversity of digital education products of SSVN and marked SSVN as the first non-profit organizations to implement digital transformation to address social challenges.
In 2018, in a diplomatic trip to Vung Tau, the Ambassador of Australia in Vietnam – Mr. Craig Chittick met Binh who was an Aunstralian alumnus and listened to his pitch about the app. Mr. Chittick expressed his interest and introduced Binh to the Direct Aid Program of Australian Aid which belonged to Australian government. In the same year, the aid was approved, thanks to the first financial support, SSVN developed new long awaited features including: video and sound instructions so users could follow more quickly than reading text and photos, links to Youtube and traditional courses.
The current 3.0 version of First Aid SSVN is currently among the first aid apps that have the most features.
